Historic House Workshops at Stan Hywet

by 11:36 AM

I am lucky enough to live here in Akron, home of Stan Hywet Hall, one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America. Built in netween 1912 and 1915 by F. A. Seiberling, founder of Goodyear, it's a National Historic Landmark and has been wonderfully maintained as a tribute to the great era of the city's "Rubber Barons."

While I will be sure to go into more detail regarding this wonderful house--influenced by well-known English homes such as Compton Wynyates, Ockwells and Haddon Hall--I wanted to note the series of five workshops they are offering during 2009, each of which is designed to educate and engage the historic building enthusiast. Designed for professionals as well as owners of historic homes, the series meets from 10 am – 12 noon every other Saturday beginning February 21. Each workshop includes a question-and-answer session so that participants can ask more specific questions related to their own concerns and interests.

This series of workshops is a collaboration between Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, The Cleveland Restoration Society and Progress Through Preservation; classes are $25 per session or $100 for the entire five-part series. To register, contact Chrissy Kozey by phone at 330-315-3261 or by email: ckozey@stanhywet.org. Early registration is recommended as space is limited. The workshops are as follows:

Just caught this brief, bouncy back-and-forth pan shot of snow falling at Liberty of London. A nice winter scene.
